This increase in bioenergetic capacity enabled hippocampal slices from these animals to better withstand metabolic challenge from low glucose exposure. Taken together, the prevailing notion has been that increased energy production and reserve capacity enable greater resistance to neuronal hyperexcitability and hypersynchrony.
